A Quiet Day

A Quiet Day is an original theatre production by Isegrim, written and directed by Rik Vanessche. Set during the First World War, the story follows three characters whose lives unfold against the backdrop of the war. (music coming soon)

For the production, I created the music together with double bassist Peter Eeckhout. We explored the contrast between slow, emotional pieces reflecting the human cost of war and loud, distorted passages evoking the chaos and violence of the trenches.

A central part of the process was finding the right balance between presence and restraint. The music sometimes took the foreground, while in other moments it quietly supported the actors, poems and letters being performed on stage.

The music was performed live throughout the production, making it an integral part of the atmosphere and storytelling.

The response from both the audience and the people involved in the production was very positive. Many described the music as an essential addition to the play, with the two elements complementing and carrying each other.
